Park to be named in memory of prominent local

REAL estate agent and developer Brian Navin will be remembered with a park.

Coffs Harbour City Council this week approved a proposal by councillor Nan Cowling to name the park between Northside shopping centre and Park Beach Plaza after Mr Navin, a tough and successful businessman involved in the development of much of the area that is now Park Beach Plaza, Park Beach and Macauleys Headland.

He built the Northside shopping centre, which he owned until his death in August 2013 at the age of 99.

In the 1930s he did stunt riding in Hollywood for American movie stars, returning to Australia to become a bomber pilot in the Second World War.

His first love was horses and cattle. He was the first president of Coffs Harbour Pony Club and a lifetime supporter of the Coffs Harbour Show Society.

Cr Cowling said Mr Navin was a former councillor who moved to Coffs Harbour in 1957 and promoted the city wherever he travelled.

She said he was a well-known person who lived a prosperous life.
