Illness forces Roosters to find new leader

ONLY two rounds into the Group 2 season and already there has been a change of coach.

Nambucca Heads were more than happy during the summer months when they announced renowned Central Coast coach Gordon Mason as the man who was taking the helm at Coronation Park.

Unfortunately ill health has meant Mason won't be able to continue in the role.

The issue became apparent when Mason was unable to attend the Roosters' opening match of the season against Orara Valley nine days ago.

While wishing Mason all the best with the battle with his illness, the club realised that the show must go on and have appointed club stalwart Dean Urquhart to fill the breach for the rest of the season.

"We're just going to get all the boys together and work on our fitness," Urquhart said of his plans for the rest of 2008.

"It all starts with that and we should've hung onto the game on Sunday but for a few finishing problems when we got down their end and didn't know what to do."

Nambucca Heads are playing at Smithtown this weekend against the also winless Macleay Valley.
