I thought I could. Now I know I can. So does my friend!

GIRL power: girls can do anything (well, nearly).

My husband would always say: "You think you can."

Let's start with the easy task: 99.9% of the time I mow the lawn. It can take 35 minutes to an hour. I do it.

I've been told I'm a good trades assistant. I've helped to build a fence, a garden shed and change the oil. I've fixed things on cars, trailers and camper trailers.

Ive trimmed trees and hedges, mixed and poured concreted, dug up a garden and even tidied up The Man Cave.

I'm always out there getting my hands dirty.

I replaced the door handle on a Daihatsu Sirion. It took about two and a half hours and, when completed, I got the approval. I did it.

My biggest task, just recently, was re-arranging the house upstairs and downstairs.

I needed to move the queen-size mattress up14 stairs. It had to be done.

Halfway up those stairs I was struggling. Not quite at the top I felt it slipping and, with every being in my body, I told myself if I don't get it up now it was never going to happen. My fingers were sore from gripping on to the mattress. All the way up those stairs I felt the pain and yet I carried on. Finally I was smiling. I did it.

Next on the list was dismantling the bed frame. I found the sockets I needed and thought this should be okay.

Then I found the nuts and bolts were rusty. I really didn't need this. I grabbed a can of WD40 and sprayed the heck out of all those nuts and bolts and, eventually, I got there. I did it.

Last on my list was putting a four-metre by two-metre carpet under the freezer, a small display cabinet and a two-metre cabinet with a 50" TV, and stereo on top of it.

First of all was moving everything aside to get the carpet down and making sure I didn't scratch the polished floor. Okay, I had to concentrate big time.

This 50" TV was about rib level.

It took me three tries to get this from the cabinet to the table. I kept telling myself, whatever you do don't drop it.

Then, after everything else, I had to get it back again. I did it.

My girlfriend told me her story. With her partner away she was vacuuming the house. Suddenly the vacuum was blocked, nothing happening.

Normally she would throw a hissy fit, put it in the bin and buy a new one.

This time she considered what her partner would do.

So she found some tools, took the offending cleaner to bits, found the clogged filter, cleaned it and put it back together. She did it.

To my husband: "I know I can."
