"I lie for a living': Magic changes man's life

TONIGHT the South Burnett will be graced with the presence of magic with a powerful message.

Based at the Sunshine Coast, magician Andrew 'Andino' Cox is performing his tricks in front of the Highway Youth Group at the Highway Church in Kingaroy.

Starting at 6pm on Friday, September 6 his show will feature a combination of magic he has accumulated over the past four and a half years.

However, it was almost fate that the Queensland magician fell into his current career path after facing adversity in his personal life.

"I used to be plumber,” Andino said.

"I got really sick when I was plumbing and was battling chronic fatigue and an allergy disorder,”

"I was into magic beforehand so while I was sick I used it as an opportunity to learn and develop my skills at home.”

"I first started busking on the street and a couple of little gigs here and there,” he said.

Andino said magic was like a 'bug' to him and once he did his first trick it made him want to do it more.

"It makes you happy that you're making other people happy.

"I first performed a trick to my wife.

"If I have a new trick I try it out on her and if I can fool her , I will put it straight in the repertoire,” he said.

Highway Youth Group Leader Jason Chesterton said having people like Andino perform for the group's members was a huge moral boost.

"I was talking to my pastor and we were talking about putting something on for the youth of the region,” Mr Chesterton said.

"Andy had performed at another Church and through that connection we were able to get him to come out here.

"I grew up in Kingaroy and there is a little bit to do for young people but there's not much that is free.

"We wanted something to entertain young people and also spread a positive, fun message,” he said.

With a UE Boom and Domino's vouchers up for grabs, the youth group were looking forward to welcoming him at the church.

Performing along the East Coast of Australia, Andino hopes to continue to visit the South Burnett and wow his guests with great performances.
