Hyland wins Seaside Classic after playoff win over friend
THE golfing resume of local player Tim Hyland continues to grow after another successful weekend.
Hyland claimed his second straight Morgans' Seaside Classic after winning in a play-off against fellow Coffs Harbour golfer and good friend Jack Pountney.
Pountney started the second day of the 36-hole event at Port Macquarie Golf Club with a two stroke lead over Hyland and another Coffs Harbour golfer in Aden Louez.
In the opening round Pountney carded a 1-under 70.
In the second round Hyland found his range to shoot a 69 to finish in a tie at the top of the leaderboard with Pountney.
Louez finished a credible fourth, five shots behind the leaders.
The fact Hyland made the play-off at all was thanks to holing a 25-foot putt on the final hole.
On the first play-off hole Hyland had a tap-in birdie putt on the par-5 after his third shot finished only an inch from the hole. Pountney only just missed his birdie putt to send the play-off to a second sudden death hole.
