Hundreds protest Telstra closure
DESPITE being given fewer than 48 hours notice, hundreds of workers and business owners hit the streets in Grafton today to protest against Telstra's plans to close its Grafton call centre, with the resultant loss of more than 100 jobs.
Telstra will announce tomorrow whether it intends to proceed with its announced intention to close its Business Customer call centre, announced two weeks ago.
In today's rally, many businesses closed their doors and marched with their workers to send a clear message to Telstra, we want you to keep your call centre and the jobs it provides.
The march was led by Grafton Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Jeremy Challacombe, who was joined by Member for Clarence Steve Cansdell, Mayor Richie Williamson, a host of Grafton's leading business figures and everyday workers.
People joined the march as it went past their place of work. Some even had signs out in support.
