Hughes cricket contract renewed

HAVING played in two of Australia’s last four Test matches it was almost a fait acompli that Macksville’s run scoring machine Phillip Hughes would have his contract with Cricket Australia renewed but it’s always a relief anyway.

Hughes was yesterday named by Cricket Australia as one of the 25 players on the contracted list for 2010-11.

The list was assessed based on the players’ form over the past 12 months and the likelihood of Australian selection over the coming year.

All contracted players will receive a minimum $200,000 retainer, plus match fees, tour fees and prize money for any on-field success.

Now with seven Tests next to his name and a batting average of 51.25, the 21 year-old is looking towards maintaining in his place in the squad for upcoming Test matches against Pakistan and of course the highly anticipated Ashes series to be played in Australia next summer.
