Huawei P10 is one super smooth shooter

THE first thing you notice about Huawei's new P10 phone is its super smooth finish.

The P10 and P10 Plus use a new Hyper Diamond Cut finishing technique to complement its refined sandblast and glossy ceramic process.

The end result is noticeable, resulting in a phone that is pleasant to hold and one that easily slips into your pocket.

But it's not the finish that attracts most people to the world's third most popular smartphone manufacturer.

Huawei has partnered again with legendary lensmaker Leica to bring a dual-camera system that now includes 3D facial detection technology that enables quicker, more accurate feature recognition.

I've previously tested the Mate 9 and still rate it as one of my favourite Android phones.

The selfie camera, in particular, is designed for Instagram success.

It's beauty mode can take out blemishes and wrinkles and take 10 years off your life.

If you think you old school mate looks great in her social media posts, check out what camera (or filters) she might be using.

The Leica Dual-Camera 2.0 features wide aperture effect - something that you will certainly notice when shooting beautiful landscape scenes. Like the iPhone 7 Plus, you can also use bokeh effect to produce beautiful portraits with blurred backgrounds.

The dual camera set up includes a 12MP RGB sensor working alongside a 20MP monochrome lens.

The camera features f/1.8 aperture of the P10 Plus - f/2.2 on the P10 but it doesn't capture photos as well in low light settings as well as others on the market including the Samsung S8.

What is does offer, however, is the largest selection of modes around including monochrome, light painting, time lapse, slow mo, document scan, night shot, good food, watermark, audio note, HDR and panorama.

In "Pro" mode, you can customise settings like shutter speed, white balance and ISO.

As expected now, you can also shoot 4K video.

The P10 battery is super quick to charge but with a 3200 Ah capacity is not as impressive as that of the 4,000mAh battery in the Mate 9 which I found could last a couple of days.

With Huawei SuperCharge, you can take the battery from 0 to 25% in 15 minutes or 0 to 88% in an hour. The P10 Plus battery has a more impressive 3,750mAh power pack.

Unlike the iPhone, Samsung and Sony flagships, the P10 and P10 Plus are not water and dust resistant, which is a big downside if you like using your phone near the pool or at the beach.

The P10 comes in graphite black, prestige gold (exclusive to Vodafone) and dazzling blue (exclusive to Optus) while the P10 Plus comes in the black.

It comes standard with 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM in the P10 and 128GB storage and 6GB of RAM in the Huawei P10 Plus.

Both phones use Google's Android 7.0 Nougat OS with the Huawei Emotion 5.1 user interface.

The Huawei P10 costs $899 outright while the P10 Plus is $1099. They were certainly worth a look, especially if you are into great photos.
