House Rules' 'Ken and Barbie' get their dream home

QUEENSLAND newlyweds Ben and Danielle no longer feel like they have the worst house on their street.

The renovations of the Brisbane couple's 1970s brick home were revealed on House Rules last night.

The couple, who were nicknamed "Ken and Barbie" by their fellow contestants on the reality renovation show, can now put the memories of wood cladding, lace curtains and red bricks behind them.

"It was basically like moving into a new home," Danielle told APN.

"I was just so shocked and amazed at what we saw. It was hard to judge because it all happened so quickly. You're so stoked to get all this new stuff that it's hard to put things in perspective."

Tasmanians Matt and Cassie produced Danielle's favourite room, the living room.

"It feels like ours. It's just really funky and I love it," she said.

"Cassie really got it. I think she's got similar taste to me."

Judge Joe Snell awarded the Tassie couple a perfect score for their smart interpretation of Ben and Danielle's house rule to keep a touch of "ski chalet".

On the other hand, Western Australian parents Karina and Brian produced the most disappointing room in the house, the Kitchen.

"Ben said from the very beginning he loves cooking," Danielle said.

"We had quite a big kitchen to start with. We didn't have a pantry at all but we had a lot of bench space. To come in and see that was really disappointing. We didn't want to be ungrateful, but it was just tiny. With the butler's pantry it was like two separate kitchens."

Karina and Brian also caused controversy when they dismantled a set of stairs, leaving Ryan and Marlee stranded on the second level of Ben and Danielle's home.

"They're the ones we didn't get to know as well as everybody else," Danielle said.

"They kept things so close to their chest. They were so ultra-competitive that it would have ruined their experience (on the show) for themselves. It didn't have to be like that. They were so desperate to win, for their own reasons, they just made the wrong choices in how they went about it."

NSW father and daughter Steve and Tiana, who wrestled space away from the kitchen for the large butler's pantry, were the lowest scoring team and will have to sleep in a tent during the next week of renovations.
