It's still hot in the City as Melbourne racks up the goals

DOUBLES to marquee man Aaron Mooy and Uruguayan Bruno Fornaroli continued Melbourne City's stunning goal spree, this time accounting for Newcastle 4-0 at Hunter Stadium.

The win followed successive 5-1 wins over Perth Glory and Central Coast, marking the first time a team had scored four goals or more in three successive A-League games.

Both sides had several chances in the first half, but it was arguably the competition's most in-form player, Mooy, who broke the deadlock with a goal after some lax defending just before half-time.

Fornaroli then added his name to the scoresheet not long after the resumption when he squeezed a ball under keeper Mark Birighitti's legs after a quality pass from Ben Garuccio.

Just three minutes later the contest was over when Ivan Franjcic found Mooy right in front with a perfect cross for his second, before Fornaroli put the icing on the win with the goal of a game after latching onto a Mooy pass in the box.

The win lifted City into third place on the ladder and will have given the side plenty of confidence for next weekend's derby against Melbourne Victory.

The defending champions, who lost 2-0 to the Wanderers in Parramatta on Saturday night, will face a tough task considering they have to travel to Perth for a catch-up game against the Glory on Wednesday night.
