Hopscotch crime upsets Boambee kids

NOT even a childcare centre is considered off-limits by some criminals.

Boambee East's Hopscotch Childcare Centre was broken into on Wednesday.

Owner/licensee Kate Shortt said intruders jemmied a door to gain entry to the Linden Avenue premises and made off with a computer, two flat-screen monitors and a stereo system.

Staff discovered the raid when they turned up for work at 7am yesterday.

“It's really upsetting because it's a childcare centre,” Mrs Shortt said.

“It's been upsetting for the kids because they've had the police here.”

It was a similar story at the centre 18 months ago when low lives broke in and stole funds collected for Australia's Biggest Morning Tea.

“We don't keep cash on our premises anymore,” Mrs Shortt said.

“We're upgrading our security.”

  • In other news, a $700 BMX bike was stolen from a garage in Moseley Drive, also at Boambee East, on Wednesday night.

Police said the owner had left the door open to take out the bins between 10.30pm and 11.30pm.
