Holy mackerel, they're here for the Easter Classic

THE mackerel have turned up in time for the Coffs Harbour Deep Sea Fishing Club's Easter Fishing Classic.

A recent mackerel shoot-out tested the waters, and as Karen Goodwin of Jetty Boating found out, there's some big catches around.

"This fish weighed 20.135kg," Karen said.

"I started fishing at 6.30am and had the fish in the boat by 7.20am.

"Across the weekend there were good mackerel numbers.

"Some boats had in excess of five spotted mackerel on board between two anglers on the Saturday, and a few good snapper also made the scales.

The Easter Fishing Classic, one of the East Coast's premier fishing competitions, has run for more than 40-years.

The classic also has brought considerable economic benefit to the Coffs Coast.

The event again includes deep sea and beach, rock and estuary fishing sections.

Entry is $50 for adults and $15 for juniors.
