Holy mackerel!

A BOATING trip on Monday was starting to get boring for cousins Kyle, Zari and Jacob Blay - that is until they hooked a Spanish mackerel.

The 17.3kg Spanish mackerel was hooked on a rod using a live slimey mackerel bait just off Sawtell Headland.

“They're still excited,” Tory Blay said. Mr Blay is Zari and Rory's dad and Jacob's uncle.

All three children, and Mr Blay, helped bring in the big fish.

"They got even more excited cleaning it,” Mr Blay added.
