Hogget dressed up as lamb

A COFFS Harbour business has been 'named and shamed' for a food law violation by a new State Government website.

Farmers Direct at Toormina have been fined for allegedly selling falsely labelled food, specifically hogget labelled as lamb.

The alleged offence occurred in May and the business has been fined $660.

But Farmers Direct owner, Allan Cooke, who has been in business for 30 years and never been fined before, is in the process of contesting the penalty.

“The product was accidentally marked due to a computer coding error, the push of a button,” Mr Cooke said.

“We're not trying to deceive anybody.”

Mr Cooke said the incident was a 'one off' and has assured customers it won't happen again.

But that doesn't stop his business being added to the Food Authority's online register.
