Hockeyroos qualify for World Cup with 3-1 win

THE Hockeyroos had to come from behind to beat Italy 3-1 and qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

Italy scored first in the fifth-versus-sixth playoff at the World League semi-final in Brussels with a goal by Federica Carta in the opening quarter.

Kathryn Slattery equalised after lead-up by Jordyn Holzberger early in the second quarter.

The Australians were denied three penalty corner opportunities by the well-organised Italian defence.

Georgie Morgan took the Aussies ahead from a penalty corner to make it 2-1 and Madi Ratcliffe sealed the win with a deflected goal.
