Italy scored first in the fifth-versus-sixth playoff at the World League semi-final in Brussels with a goal by Federica Carta in the opening quarter.

Kathryn Slattery equalised after lead-up by Jordyn Holzberger early in the second quarter.

The Australians were denied three penalty corner opportunities by the well-organised Italian defence.
