Hilda's buoyant at 101
AT 101 years old, Hilda Allen is ready to try some new experiences.
The centurion has celebrated her 101st birthday this week and has just had her first swim in about 10 years.
Hilda is remarkably healthy for her age and enjoyed her dip in the heated pool at Woolgoolga Physio and Professional Centre with Coffs Haven physiotherapist aid Vera Stojevski.
It has been a big month for Hilda who has just moved into Coffs Haven two weeks ago after living with her daughter, Georgette Allen, in Valla for the last 18 months.
Up until then she had been living by herself in Sydney until she was 99 years old, however, she had to have some help when her left hip deteriorated through osteoarthritis.
Up until then she had a very active life and she had continued lawn bowls until she was 99 years old and also played golf, swam and danced well into her 80s.
She enjoyed her first swim and the mobility in the water as she has not been able to put any weight on her left leg.
If anyone is looking for the secret of a long and healthy life, Hilda’s advice may not get a tick from the Heart Foundation.
She said she had enjoyed bacon and eggs every morning and was a self-confessed chocoholic.
