UPDATE  Sept 15, 9am: A bush fire continues to burn in bushland in the vicinity of Drake, Tabulam and the Bruxner Hwy. The fire has burnt more than 53,000 hectares and is being controlled.

Current Situation

The fire is burning north of the Bruxner Highway near rural properties in Red Rock and Rover Park.

The threat to homes has eased.

The Bruxner Highway is currently closed in some locations. Check Live Traffic for updates.

Advice for residents

Residents in the areas of Rover Park and Red Rock should monitor conditions. Follow your bush fire survival plan and know what you will do if a fire threatens.

If you are in the area of Drake, Ewingar, Sandy Place, Tilbaroo and areas on the western side of the Clarence River, follow your bush fire survival plan and ensure you know what you will do if conditions change.

People in areas on the eastern side of the Clarence River should monitor conditions closely. Ensure you know what you will do if the fire impacts on your property.

If you live in the area but are away from your home, it may not be safe to return to your property.

UPDATE SEPT 16, 9pm: A bush fire burning in bushland in the vicinity of Drake, Tabulam and the Bruxner Hwy is at watch and act level.

The fire has jumped the Bruxner Highway and is moving in a north easterly direction towards rural homes in Red Rock Road and Rover Park.

"Firefighters are with a number of residents on Red Rock Road.

"Residents in the area of Red Rock and Rover Park should seek shelter as the fire approaches and protect themselves from the heat of the fire."

UPDATE 2.22pm: The fire has jumped the Bruxner Highway and is moving in a north easterly direction towards rural homes in Red Rock and Rover Park.

UPDATE 2pm:  The fire has jumped the Bruxner Highway north east of Sandy Hill. The fire is moving in a north-easterly direction towards homes in Red Rock and Rover Park.

Residents should seek shelter as the fire approaches.

The Large Air Tanker is being sent to assist.

UPDATE 1.50pm: A NSW RFS spokesman said firefighters and aircraft are battling multiple spot fires north of the Bruxner Highway near Drake.
He said the fire has been upgraded to an emergency warning and the fire has jumped the Bruxner Highway, burning in a north-easterly direction in the vicinity of the Red Rock and Rover Park areas, west of Drake.

He said weather conditions in the area are producing erratic fire behaviour, and the highway is closed in both directions.
Residents in the area are urged to take shelter as the fire approaches, it is too late to leave.
Residents in the surrounding areas are advised to monitor the situation.

UPDATE 1.10pm: A bush fire is burning in bushland south of Drake, Tabulam and the Bruxner Highway has been upgraded to EMERGENCY WARNING. 

The fire is continuing to spread in a number of directions due to winds and local terrain, and has burnt more than 52,000 hectares.

The fire continues to burn to the west of the Clarence River in the Girard State Forest.

Firefighters are currently undertaking backburning in a number of areas across the fire ground, this will continue as conditions allow. People in the area may notice an increase of smoke and fire as these burns are undertaken.

The Bruxner Highway is currently closed. Check Live Traffic for updates.

The Bruxner Highway is closed in both directions between Tenterfield and Drake.
