Man charged after high-speed pursuit

A COFFS HARBOUR man who tried to outrun police has wound up in hot water.

At 11pm on Saturday, police spotted a Mitsubishi Magna sedan allegedly travelling at 69km/h in a 50km/h zone in Coffs Harbour’s Orlando Street.

The driver allegedly refused to pull over and police gave chase into Hogbin Drive and Ocean Parade through a series of speed humps.

Officers allege that at one stage of the pursuit the driver reached speeds of 100km/h in a 50km/h zone.

They eventually managed to stop the vehicle in Boultwood Street at Park Beach and arrested the 40-year-old at the scene.

He was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station where he was charged with dangerous speeding and failing to stop for police.
