There'll be no pressure, but Scorchers leaders won't be surprised if a resilient Alecz Day is quick to get back into his big-hitting ways when he makes a remarkable return to the field.

Just eight months after lying in Sunshine Coast University Hospital in an induced coma following a massive heart attack, Day will walk back out on pitch for the Scorchers on Saturday.

He'll pad up at number five in the batting order and is expected to bowl his 10 overs when the Sunshine Coast take on UQ.

An "incredibly happy" Scorchers coach Ash Holznagel said it was great to have him back.

"We were all expecting him to be back in mid-January because that would've been 12 months from when it happened and we were sort of planning to ease him back in at the end of the season in the last few rounds," Holznagel said.

"But then last week he said the cardiologist was happy with how he was going and was going to sign him off.

"It's a great story for how resilient he is and how fit he is and what an amazing journey in eight months."

Holznagel said there wouldn't be any expectations placed on the all-rounder.

"I've told him there's no pressure to just go out there and enjoy his cricket," he said.

"He has been out and been through an unbelievable life event so one of the big things is we just want him to go out there and enjoy his cricket and get back into the routine of playing great cricket again."

However, Holznagel wouldn't be shocked if Day nailed some big shots.

"He's been hitting balls for months, that's the way Alecz operates, he's an incredibly competitive bloke and that's what makes him the great player he is," he said.

Captain Angus Lovell was glad to have Day back and said news of his return had buoyed spirits.

"It's huge, I think you can already tell among the boys that the group's lifted a notch," he said.

He believed Day would be quick to make his presence felt on Saturday.

"He's been training the house down all through pre-season really," Lovell said.

"He's one of the fittest blokes in the squad and he's still hitting the ball as hard as ever.

"I'm expecting to see the same old Alecz on Saturday, it's exciting."
