Hero a thrill for Rebecca

DURING their preparations for the current Olympic Games, the Australian Women's Basketball Team, the Opals, recently played two warm up games against the Brazil National team and one lucky Coffs Harbour player was lucky enough to not only attend the game in Sydney but meet her hero Lauren Jackson.

Rebecca Black has been playing basketball in Coffs Harbour for just over two years and in that time has developed into one of the region's most promising basketball talents.

Currently playing with the Korora Primary School team and the Coffs Harbour Under 12 Division 1 side she spends plenty of time on the court improving her game. So when the opportunity came up to see the Opals in action she jumped at the chance.

As the game reached its conclusion, Rebecca made her way courtside where it had been arranged for her to meet her idol.

When the game was over, Lauren came over and spent time speaking with Rebecca about all things basketball and posed for a number of photos.

Level 0 coaches course

Coffs Harbour Basketball will be running a Level 0 coaches course for all interested coaches.

The course is aimed at beginner coaches who may just be starting out or for those coaches who may like to gain a better understanding of the game while attaining a formal qualification.

It's also a great lead in for the level 1 coaching course that will be held later in the year.

The session will be run by local basketball development officer Darren Thomas.

The course is scheduled for September 4 from 6.00pm to 8.00pm

Cost to complete the course is $10 per participant.

For further information or to make a booking, please contact Darren Thomas on 6651 1452 or mailto: darren@coffsharbourbasketball.com.au.

Round 2 State Titles

This weekend, seven Coffs Harbour junior sides will make the trip down to Sydney to participate in Round 2 of the Basketball NSW State Titles.

Round 2 sees the best eight teams in each of the age groups face each other for the right to progress onto the final four.

We wish all teams the best of luck and hope they come away with some great results.

NSWIS Head Coach

Coffs Harbour Basketball has been fortunate enough to secure Damian Cotter (current New South Wales Institute of Sport Head Basketball Coach) with the help of Basketball NSW for a one off basketball coaches' clinic in September.

The clinic, on Tuesday September 2, from 6.00 to 7:30pm is open to coaches of all standards and is free to attend.

To register your interest for the clinic, please contact Darren Thomas on 6651 1452 or email to: darren@coffsharbourbasketball.com.au
