FOOTBALL: Fan favourite Henrique has turned down a new contract with the Brisbane Roar and will continue his playing career in Malaysia.
The Slippery Fish, as he became known, has joined Malaysian Premier League side Negeri Sembilan.
The Brazilian-born striker, who became an Australian citizen last year, played 136 times for the Roar and was a member of the A-League championship-winning teams in 2011, 2012 and 2014.
He scored 39 times for the Roar, putting him second on the club’s all-time scoring list.
Two of those goals came in grand finals, including the winner in the 2014 decider against Western Sydney Wanderers in 2014.
“I just want to thank all the people at the club – the coaches, the players, staff and the fans for everything,” Henrique said.
“We have done it together.
“It was a pleasure being part of the Brisbane Roar family.
“It’s one chapter on my life finishing and I will start another one.
“But one thing is for sure, I will never forget the memories we have created.
“I wish the Brisbane Roar all the very best and see you soon.”
Roar football director Craig Moore said Henrique would be missed.
“We wish Riki all the best in his new adventure and thank him for his contribution and success with the club,” Moore said.
“”We made an offer to keep Henrique at the football club but he thought it was time to take on a new challenge.”
