Help win the bloody battle

WHETHER you’re a Maroons supporter or you back the Blues, many would say your State of Origin allegiance is in your blood – now, the Australian Red Cross Blood Service wants you to prove it.

With State of Origin fever set to sweep across the States, the blood service is challenging footy fans for blood donations, pitting the States against each other off the field as well as on.

“Last year’s encounter proved a testament to the Queensland fighting spirit on the field but the Blues showed their power and dominance off the field,” Blood Service NSW operations manager Garry Wolfe said.

This year the blood service – an official charity partner of rugby league’s One Community – is hoping for a bloody battle off the field.

Turn up to donate blood until July 6 and ‘vote’ for your State of Origin team to help the win the Donate for Your State challenge.

Each year, more than 1.4 million blood donations are used in Australia to save the lives of people with cancer, heart, stomach and bowel disease, accident or trauma victims, pregnant women and newborn babies.

One in three people will need blood or blood products during their lifetime but only one in 30 Australians currently give blood. To make an appointment visit www.donateblood.com.au or phone 13 14 95.
