Help at hand for depression

DEPRESSION and anxiety will be under the spotlight at Coffs City Library on Wednesday, November 30.

Guest speakers at the evening are Dr Nicola Holmes, a general practitioner, psychologist Stephen Briggs and Beth Holroyd, a clinical nurse consultant.

Dr Holmes will focus in her talk on demystifying depression and anxiety, Stephen Briggs will lead participants through a "mindfulness" training exercise and Beth Holroyd will be concentrating on the range of treatments, both medical and non-medical, which are available to sufferers, particularly on the Coffs Coast.

"It's important to remember that one in four people will suffer depression at some time in their life," said library manager Enzo Accadia.

"There is still a lot of stigma around mental health issues but our speakers want to dispel this and help people get the information they are looking for."

Refreshments will be available at the session and bookings are welcome. Participants are asked to arrive at 5.30pm for a 6pm start.

To secure a place, call 6648 4900 or email coffs.library@chcc.nsw.gov.au.
