WHAT do you do when your grandchildren gift you a teddy bear for your birthday?

Write a children's book about them of course.

That's exactly what Woolgoolga local Chris Laroux has done - and is now officially a published children's book writer.

Heinz Helps Out has recently been taken on by the Strategic Book Group and is available online, in stores and locally, and Chris said it's just the first of 30 stories she has written at home.

All of them feature Woolgoolga and Coffs Harbour.

"I've never written stories before," Chris said.

"But when my grandson was three, he gave me Heinz for my birthday and I thought I'd entertain them by writing stories that included all their toys."

Six grandchildren later she has 30 stories, all of which include Heinz and his friends.

"They still enjoy the stories now they've grown up and I enjoy writing them."

Heinz Helps Out tells the story of how Heinz volunteers to help around the house so granny and grandpa can go to town for the day.

Overzealous, Heinz puts a red shirt in with the white washing, forgets to buy chocolate biscuits, misses getting football scores for grandpa and hasn't gathered flowers for the kitchen table.

As Heinz panics, his friends come to the rescue so all is calm and serene when granny and grandpa return home.

The book is now available locally at Wishes Boutique or online at or
