Heatwave costs to burn budgets when bills arrive
THE cost of the recent heatwave on your household budget will hit the letterbox soon.
However, already there are claims that electricity companies are cashing in big on Coffs Coast power users.
Nick Brass from energymatters.com.au says Coffs Harbour residents are being faced with some of the most exorbitant electricity prices in Australia.
Mr Brass said the business had launched a campaign against the "91% price hike in energy bills over the past five years".
Quoting Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal electricity figures, the company found that Coffs Harbour residents were paying a higher daily kilowatt-per-hour charge than metropolitan power users.
On top of that the daily power supply charges locally were almost double those in the city.
Tell us what you think. Is this just a campaign to sell solar panels or the tough reality of energy grid privatisation?
