Heatwave conditions, but Queensland players play on

SOFTBALL: A few more Gladstone players will hope to emulate the successes of Josh Ferguson and Kirsty Lester.

Australian Steelers player Michael Ludkin is currently playing for Queensland in the in Open Men's Championships.

Dan Ferguson is in the Queensland Thunder's under-15 while Nick Noonan and Nick Gehrmann are effectively Dan's opponents and are in the Queensland Storm side.

All the championship matches are played in Hawker in the ACT.

Ludkin's team got off to a mixed start in day one on Sunday with a 9-4 loss against Victoria before it rebounded to oust South Australia 8-5.

Queensland then met suffered one-run losses to bitter rivals new South Wales 5-4 and to host ACT later 4-3.

Queensland will play Western Australia and the ACT tonight and will meet New South Wales tomorrow morning and then Victoria and South Australia on Thursday.

Ferguson's Thunder side has recorded a huge 17-2 win against South Australia and a 4-all draw against New South Wales Orange.

Thunder then beat New South Wales Metro Green 6-2 on Monday and smashed New South Wales Country 18-1 and take on Storm in an all-Queensland game tomorrow morning.

Queensland Thunder's next match after that will be against Victoria tomorrow afternoon.

Storm currently sit top of the ladder with a perfect three wins from as many games and have rolled Western Australia 14-3 and then kept ACT scoreless 18-0.

New South Wales Country then offered a lot more resistance in the next game, but Storm held firm for a 12-9 win.

Storm maintained its winning ways with a solid 11-4 triumph against New South Wales Metro Green earlier today.

All games were played in heatwave conditions and several games had to be re-scheduled to avoid the heat.

Very hot temperatures are expected over the next three days in the high 30s to low 40s before a cooler change on Saturday.
