Heart Week brings out walkers to Lake Kawana

MORE than 65 walkers from across the Sunshine Coast ensured a rousing response to Birtinya Retirement Village's Heart Week activities.

Members of Heart Foundation walking groups in Birtinya, Peregian Beach, Currimundi, Mooloolah, Buderim, Golden Beach and Caloundra joined local residents, exploring the scenic pathways around Lake Kawana on April 29.

Participants were also treated to morning tea and staff from the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service and the University of the Sunshine Coast health checks.

Stockland regional development manager for retirement living Pauline Barton said she had been delighted with the response to the free event.

"We had perfect weather for walking and it was great to be able to showcase the waterfront pathways around Lake Kawana, which provide a stunning route for walking, jogging or cycling,” she said.

Free weekly walks organised by the Heart Foundation walking group the Birtinya Beats are held every Wednesday at 6am. The group meets at the Oceanside Sales Centre carpark on the corner of Lake Kawana and Birtinya boulevards.
