Health issues debated

PRIME Minister Kevin Rudd will go head to head with Opposition Leader Tony Abbott in a national debate on health next Tuesday.

On the last day of parliament before a seven week recess, the government accepted a challenge from Mr Abbott to a series of election debates, but made it clear the first would be on health, its area of strength. .

Just before question time came to an end, Mr Rudd announced he would be able to debate Mr Abbott at the National Press Club next Tuesday.

“Further to the debate we had in question time today on the health and hospital system, my office has contacted the National Press Club, I’m advised the next available date for a debate between the leader of the opposition and myself is next Tuesday.

“I would therefore look forward to the opportunity to debate him on that occasion spital system.“

Mr Abbott said he would welcome the opportunity.
