Hazard burn scheduled for Koongal tomorrow morning

A HAZARD protection burn is set to take place in Koongal tomorrow, in preparation for the upcoming bushfire season.

The burn will occur in the vicinity of Kirby Street through to Rockonia Road, from about 10am.

Ignition will involve aerial incendiary, with ground crews burning off containment lines.

The burn is a collaboration of Queensland Fire and Emergency Service and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service.

Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group, Councillor Tony Williams said the efforts of both agencies are invaluable to the Koongal community and entire Region.

"We are incredibly lucky to have crews who work around the clock to reduce fire fuel and carry out activities such as this in the lead up to bushfire season," Cr Williams said.

Smoke will be visible in the area and residents are advised to shut windows and doors if affected. Those who suffer from respiratory illnesses should keep medications close by. If you feel your property is under threat, call 000 immediately.
