Hawaii fares slashed

Hawaii.
Hawaii.

AUSTRALIA'S newest carrier Strategic Airlines has released hundreds of bargain fares from Brisbane to Hawaii to celebrate the airline's latest destination.

Strategic will fly from Brisbane direct to Honolulu with flights starting on December 14.

Launch fares start from $499 one-way ex-Brisbane, inclusive of all taxes, and are available via the airline's website at Fly Strategic until sold out.

The new flights will depart Brisbane on Wednesdays and Fridays, starting in time for the 2011 Christmas and school holidays period.

Strategic Airlines will operate the services using an Airbus A330 with a seat configuration of 30 business class and 244 economy class seats.

"We are delighted to be adding Hawaii as our latest international destination," Strategic Airlines' group managing director and CEO Michael James said.

"From December, we will also launch our first flights on the Brisbane-Melbourne route to provide a new domestic airline alternative between these cities."

Hawaii Tourism Authority president and CEO Mike McCartney said Hawaii's tourism agency welcomed the announcement.

"We would like to congratulate Strategic Airlines on entering the US market with direct services from Brisbane and Melbourne, Australia to Honolulu, Hawaii, and welcome new and returning Australian visitors," Mr McCartney said.

"Australia is an important market for Hawaii's visitor industry and the number of visitors has increased 25.5% for the first six months of this year, over the same period in 2010.

"The HTA projects the new flight will provide up to $62 million in visitor expenditures and $6.7 million in tax revenue annually.

"The Brisbane to Honolulu flight will provide a significant opportunity for Hawaii to grow its presence in Australia and is positive news for our visitor industry."

Launched in 2009 and headquartered in Brisbane, Strategic Airlines is Australia's newest domestic and international carrier.

The carrier will change its name to Air Australia later this year in time for the start-up of its new Hawaii flights.
