Having creepy experiences with your kids? I can relate

OPINION: A few days ago I made the horrendous mistake of reading a thread of comments on Reddit about creepy stuff children have said to their parents and other adults in their lives.

There are some real corkers, stuff you shouldn't be reading after midnight under any circumstances.

As I was reading some of the eerie accounts - which often include young children telling one of their parents there is someone in the room with them, even though it is just the two of them - I was hit with a sense of deja vu.

Usually my partner falls asleep before I do.

Sometimes when he is asleep, he will start talking to himself.

We have had whole conversations where he is somewhere else, lost in a world of sleep, and I am left trying to make head or tail of what he is saying and why he is saying it.

But sometimes, instead of random utterings, he will come out with something that will send shivers cascading down my spine.

The first time this happened, he was happily conversing with a man named Tony.

I was in bed reading and knew he wasn't talking to me.

I thought he must have been dreaming.

I then made the tragic mistake of asking him to tell me where Tony was.

"He's standing right there," was the reply.

We were alone in a dark room and, yes, it was pretty spooky.

The worst episode of this happened late one night when I was just about to climb into bed.

He had gone to bed before me and was fast asleep - or so I thought.

Without any preamble, in his sleep-confused state, he rolled over and asked me who the three women standing behind me were.

Every single hair on the back of my neck stood straight up.

I'm still not quite over that one.

Fortunately for him, he gets to roll over after one of these episodes and is once again deeply encompassed by sleep.

As for me?

Well, let's just say sleep hasn't come quite as easily for me on those occasions.
