Have your say on Pioneer Park’s future
HOW much do you value Pioneer Park?
That's what councillor Nan Cowling wants to know ahead of Coffs Harbour City Council's last meeting of the year, which is set for next Thursday, December 18.
The CBD Masterplan Committee identified this park, a currently closed road reserve, as a permanent road, allowing traffic to run one way around the north-east corner of the city.
The approved plan to close the Harbour Dr and Gordon St intersection during building work next year includes using Pioneer Park as a temporary bypass road. This will then become a permanent thoroughfare.
The closure will allow rebuilding of the intersection and the installation of traffic lights as well as the extension of the Coffs Central shopping centre.
But there has been growing pressure to save the park as open space and particularly since koalas were seen resting in some of its mature gums.
The park also features in Coffs Coast Tourism's Cultural Trail for the colourful murals painted by Ash Johnstone and collages from the Open Studio.
Cr Cowling wants to know if you think Pioneer Park should be made into a road or retained as parkland.
