Remarkable turnaround as Kewell eyes promotion

HARRY Kewell's unfancied Crawley Town could launch an extraordinary promotion challenge, after winning a fifth game in six matches in England's fourth tier.

Months after the threat of relegation into the non-League and after a section of fans had turned on him early in the season, Kewell's side is now just five points within the playoff places.

Crawley's star player, Dutch winger Enzio Boldewijn, starred with a goal and assist to secure a 2-1 home win over fifth-place Accrington Stanley.

"There is still more than a third of the season left. I have a lot of faith in these boys,'' Kewell told the Crawley Observer.

"They want to work hard, they want to improve and they love winning.

"We're certainly not getting carried away because we're far from the finished article, but everyone in the squad is looking forward to seeing what we can achieve between now and May.

"The last couple of games we've seen things that you don't usually see in football and it's how you react to it."

While Crawley remains in 12th, there is a logjam above as the race for a place in the top seven playoff places heats up.

While Luton Town is the runaway League Two leader, just nine points separates second-place Notts County and Crawley.
