OLYMPIC gold medal winning swimmer Brooke Hanson OAM will return in 2016 as ambassador of the Beachside Radiology Coffs Ocean Swims.

Brooke said she can't wait to get5 back to the Coffs Coast.

"Coffs Harbour is my second home and I'm really looking forward to the April 3 event," she said.

"The city holds a special place in my heart with fond childhood memories of time spent at local beaches.

"My grandparents live at Park Beach and are still very involved in the local community."

Village Sports event director Mick Maley is delighted to have someone of Brooke's calibre associated with the Coffs Ocean Swims.

"It's our 19th year in 2016 and the swims really are an iconic event for Coffs," Mick said.

"An inspirational Australian, Brooke is the perfect fit for our event."

Brooke was unable to compete in the 2015 swim as she was 20 weeks pregnant at the time and has since welcomed a little girl into her family.

On this occasion she is looking forward to being one of the first to hit the water.

With three small children to look after and a busy media career, these days she squeezes in swims when she can for pleasure.

Brooke will be starting the kids' races and as well as handing out prizes she will be happy to offer tips, sign autographs or just have a chat to competitors on race day.

"I love the ocean and have continued to enjoy my love of swimming beyond the pool," Brooke added.

"To me, ocean swims aren't about winning.

"They are about taking the challenge, setting a goal and having fun."

She strives to find balance with a booming professional media career, motherhood, sponsorship appearances, motivational speaking, charity events, swim clinics and her commitment to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle for all Australians.

"I was always taught that learning to swim is an asset for life and I've continued to be passionate about swimming and love seeing other people enjoying the sport."

The Coffs Ocean Swims cater for all ages and skills.

Entrants may choose the Beachside Radiology 2000m swim, the ANZ 600m Jetty swim or the Coffs Harbour War Memorial Olympic Pool 150m and 300m junior swims.

All events will be held at the protected Coffs Jetty Beach on Sunday, April 3.
