$50,000 in $5 suitcase handed back thanks to handwriting
FORENSIC investigators who specialise in matching handwriting have identified the owner of a suitcase containing $50,000.
The clerk discovered the cash inside when a man tried to buy the suitcase.
Along with the money were handwritten notes, which police used to identify the owner.
Pomona police office-in-charge Dan McNamara said specialists compared the handwritten notes with others provided by the suspected owner.
"This was a very thorough investigation, given the large amount of money," Sergeant McNamara said.
"The handwriting on the notes found in the suitcase was determined to be a perfect match with the ones provided to police.
"The suspected owner was also identified through witness statements."
Although the suspected owner was identified in May, the money was not returned to the owner until June 25.
