Hancock on top at Ironwoman trials
COURTNEY Hancock turned the tables on her Coolangatta Gold conqueror, Hayley Bateup, by finishing top qualifier for the Kelloggs Nutri-Grain Ironwoman Series at trials held at Wanda Beach on Saturday and Sunday.
Hancock finished with 114 points, five ahead of her rival, and younger sister Bonnie added to family celebrations in Sawtell by also earning her ticket to compete this summer.
Bonnie had defied medical advice to seriously consider giving the fractured disc in her back more time to heal and astonished onlookers by finishing fifth highest qualifier on 106 points.
Both sisters are competing from Queensland club, Northcliffe, and competitors from the Sunshine State dominated across the weekend.
