Invention takes the tangle out of hair wash

WHEN Madeline Waterfall was asked to come up with an invention, she knew what she would tackle straight away.

The 10-year-old Kingsthorpe girl has entered her design for an automatic hair washer in the littleBIGidea innovation competition.

It's an entry that could win her a trip to science and innovation hot spots in Florida in the United States.

Madeline said she had come up with her design after having trouble washing her long hair.

"My mum heard about it, and she said if you could create anything, what would it be?

"I said, how about an automatic hair washer?

"It's like a hairdressers' hat that dries your hair, but it hooks on to a hook into a shower, it's a suction base," she said.

"You just put some shampoo and conditioner in your hair, and you gently pull it down on to your head.

"There's little plastic soft bristles in there that massage all the shampoo and conditioner in."

Former New Inventors host James O'Loghlin is one of the competition's judges, and said it was a platform for creativity in kids.

"With new technologies being developed every day, it's a really exciting time to be encouraging students such as Madeline to unearth the nation's next littleBIGidea, no matter how big or small. Madeline's entry is a great example of how imaginative kids can be when they're given a creative challenge," Mr O'Loghlin said.
