'Gun toting woman' on highway

CONCERNED motorists called police yesterday to report a woman was carrying a firearm as she walked on the side of the Pacific Highway at Halfway Creek.

Police were told the armed woman pointed the rifle in the direction of motorists about 8.40am.

Coffs/Clarence highway patrol officers were called to the scene, roughly 500m from the Halfway Creek service station.

Police said they failed to locate anyone matching that description.

Inquiries are continuing into the incident.
