Gulaptis rejects ‘bully boy’ pledge against privatisation

MEMBER for Clarence Chris Gulaptis did not accept an invitation from the Health Services Union to sign a pledge against privatising the state's non-clinical professions, calling it a union stunt.

The pledge was a reaction to Health Minister Jillian Skinner saying she would privatise the management of cleaners, kitchen staff, physiotherapists and other non-clinical roles.

Labor candidate Trent Gilbert signed at Grafton Base Hospital on Wednesday.

The HSU's Jonathan Milman said many Grafton Base jobs would be jeopardised under privatisation.

"It is a great disappointment the Nationals member did not come," Mr Milman said.

"A lot of these people voted for him."

Mr Milman and Mr Gilbert approached Mr Gulaptis while he was handing out ballot papers on King St.

Mr Gulaptis said it was typical union bully boy tactics.

When asked about his position on what Ms Skinner said, Mr Gulaptis said he was not briefed about it.
