VB GOLD Group 2 has announced the draw for the official trials which will kick off the 2011 season.

Clubs will be allowed to negotiate their own fixtures in addition to the mandatory pre-season with the third Sgt Matthew Locke Memorial clash between Bellinger Valley-Dorrigo and Australian Army Thunder growing in importance to become one of the major fixtures on the calendar.

Local premiers Port Macquarie Sharks are also planning a re-match with Group 3 premiers Port City Breakers with proceeds going to charity.

The competition proper will commence on the weekend of April 1-2.

Club coaching appointments continue with Greg Shuttleworth elevated to the top position at Woolgoolga in place of Steve Gooley.

Shuttleworth, a former player during the 1990s with the Seahorses, rejoined the club at the beginning of the year and steered the under-18s into their first semi-finals series for more than a decade.

In 2008-09, he won back-to-back titles with the Sawtell Juniors.

A premiership-winning halfback with Orara Valley (1994) and Bellingen (1999), he had one season in charge of the Magpies before a long-term stint assisting Craig Wallace at the Panthers.

Meanwhile, the upgrading of the Group’s website has begun under newly appointed webmaster Paul Dwyer.

It will be an ongoing process until club sites are linked to the host but after years of inaccuracy, the information contained is current with new features in the planning stage.

The site is expected to be fully functioning prior to the start of the 2011 season.
