MATTHEW Bell's dreams of marrying his long-time love Samantha Pynappels were shattered on the weekend when bucks night antics turned fatal at a Sydney nightclub.

The 26-year-old civil engineer slipped and fell on a staircase late Saturday night.

He was taken to St Vincent's Hospital where he later died.

His fiancé, who was celebrating her hen's night just blocks away, was informed in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Her father Chris told the Daily Telegraph the pair was "madly in love" and said his daughter was "shattered" by the news.

Matthew and Samantha met at Glen Innes high school when they were 16.

They planned to marry in Fiji in June.
