Protest against greyhound racing industry this weekend

LISMORE lawyer Angela Pollard, Animal Justice Party candidate Anna Ludvik and local greyhound foster carer Caroline Ludwig will join others in a protest against the greyhound racing industry this Sunday.

The Lismore leg of protests for the National Day of Action to Shut Down the Greyhound Industry will be held at 9.30am outside the Lismore Greyhound Racing Track on Sunday.

The protests follows last year's revelations by ABC's Four Corners program of widespread live baiting in the industry and details aired in the recent Special Commission of Inquiry into the Greyhound Racing Industry in NSW.

Local greyhound foster carer Caroline Ludwig said she cared for greyhounds that were often dumped because they were no longer useful to the industry.

"I ended up taking on several greyhounds after working with animal welfare groups and it just just grew from there," she said.

"The industry knows it has a problem but the solution is not about re-homing a few dogs, we are talking thousands each year needing homes - it's just not sustainable."
