NEW South Wales coach Laurie Daley has been dealt a huge blow ahead of this month's State of Origin, with Gold Coast Titans enforcer Greg Bird to miss the whole series through suspension.
Bird fronted up to the NRL judiciary tonight in an attempt to have a grade two dangerous throw charge from the Kangaroos' loss in the Anzac Test to New Zealand downgraded.
The forward was charged with lifting Kiwi winger Jason Nightingale in the 26-12 defeat.
Bird was attempting to have the charge lowered to a grade one but now that he has failed in that attempt he is now looking at an eight-match suspension because of the points loading due to three other dangerous throw charges in the past 12 months.
The 30-year-old could have taken an early guilty plea, meaning he would have missed six weeks and the first two Origin games.
Success at the judiciary would have seen his ban reduced to two weeks which would have enabled him to in all three games against Queensland.
