Greenpower a turn on for the Coast

COFFS Coast residents are among those leading the way in green energy.

The latest GreenPower figures show that Australians were purchasing record levels of GreenPower from July to September this year with NSW customers continuing to lead the charge.

NSW Minister for Energy, Ian Macdonald, said that GreenPower sales in NSW were the highest in any jurisdiction.

“NSW residents and businesses continue to lead the nation in taking personal action to reduce carbon emissions by voluntarily purchasing accredited renewable energy through GreenPower,” Mr Macdonald said.

“The third quarterly results show that a total of 2,221,988 homes and 10,247 businesses are GreenPower customers, which is around 28 per cent more over the same time last year.”

Nationally, 849,307 electricity customers are now purchasing GreenPower, which represents around nine and a half per cent of residential customers in Australia.

GreenPower supports new renewable energy development and reduces greenhouse gases from electricity generation.

Since the NSW Government established the program in 1997, GreenPower has been responsible for cutting greenhouse gas emissions from electricity generation in Australia by more than five million tonnes, equivalent to taking 1.1 million cars off the roads for a year.
