Green shows promise with Classic win

GOLF: Australian rookie Hannah Green is closer to a start on the US LPGA Tour after her first pro victory in the Sara Bay Classic on the Symetra Tour in Florida.

The Perth 20-year-old turned pro only late last year and the win came in just her fourth start on the LPGA's development tour.

She was the only player to finish under par with a closing one-over 73 to finish two-under 214.

Benyapa Niphatsophon of Thailand and Princess Superal of the Philippines tied for second.

Green collected $21,800 for the win to jump to No.3 on the money list with $27,906.

"I was still getting myself settled So it is nice to have a win so early in the season,” Green said.

"I knew I was ready to turn professional end of last year. I just felt if I stayed an amateur I wouldn't get worse but I wasn't going to get better.

"I needed to put myself in better fields and I'm glad my game is raising. I'm really excited to continue on the Symetra Tour.”
