Great way to start a brand-new year

IT'S on again!

New Year's Day will see huge crowds flocking to the south of Coffs Harbour for Sunny Sawtell's Fun Day.

It's the 89th year of the annual family fun day, and organisers have put together a program guaranteed to keep the family happy on the first day of the year.

A 5.5km fun run through the streets of Sawtell kicks off at 9am, with awards in categories such as over 60s, U13s and open men's and women's.

The woodchop always proves popular and starts at 9.30am, while First Avenue will come alive from 10am with a street procession of motorbikes, floats and decorated push bikes.

The kids will be well catered for, with two special hours set aside just for party games and fun events.

But all will be waiting to see who will be crowned Sawtellian and Junior Sawtellian of the Year at 11.30am, a much-lauded award sponsored by the Sawtell Chamber of Commerce.

So if you're stuck for something to do on the first day of the year, head to Sawtell where you're sure to have some fun.
