Great finals in junior squash
FRIDAY junior squash produced the best turnout of players who participated in some great finals along with parents who helped cheer them all on.
At the completion of play all enjoyed the presentations and sausage sizzle.
Peter Saxby commented on the improved standards now being realised with the development clinics conducted during the school term as a real success.
It was pleasing to see the increased number of high school players taking up the game with many gaining skills and confidence during the term.
Term 3 games commence on July 23 and there will be new activities for players to be challenged with. Players of all standards, whether you are a beginner or have played before, are welcome to contact the Squash Centre on 6653 6523 to register for a very active and social afternoon.
In Division 1, Ryan Marshall accounted for Alex Aitken 3-0 while in Division 2 Shaun Claughton defeated Sam Speechley 7-11 10-11 11-8 11-10 11-8 in a very close and evenly matched final.
Division 3 saw Matt Robinson defeat Zac Cowled 3-1 with both players making significant improvement during the term. In Division 4, Connor Morton def Jakob Dillon in five sets with little separating the two boys who have come through the Development Clinics.
Division 5 saw Laura Guise beat Peter Guise 3-1 with Peter putting in a super effort challenging his sister while in Division 6 Maddison Prendergast was fully tested by Jaden Herring with Madison winning in four sets 9-11 11-8 11-5 11-9.
The most-improved award was won by Kurt Russell and encouragement award was won by our youngest player Jaden Herring who has been very impressive during the term.
Wednesday night mixed social finals provided a good workout for players with Line winners Jeff Iddles defeating John Sambrook in five sets, Brendan Ramstadius defeated Chris Connington in four sets and Aaron Grantham beat Greg Meyer coming from two sets to one down confirming his improvement this season to win in five sets. Elise Moriz def Helen Taylor in a rematch which had little separating the players. Elise winning 5-15 15-9 15-14 17-15.
During the school holidays there will be mixed matches for players commencing at 7.00pm, Tuesday to Thursday nights.
New players, whether you are a beginner or looking to gain some fitness during winter are welcome to join in the activities.
