Study grants to aid women into ‘male’ careers

WOMEN across the Fraser Coast are being further encouraged to take on jobs in male-dominated industries, with up to $20,000 in grants on offer.

The State Government's Supporting Women Scholarships see recipients provided with up to $5000 each year for full-time study, vocational education and training, undergraduate degrees and post-graduate qualifications.

Since the scholarships launched in 2013, 246 women across the state have received more than $4 million to support their training or study, including three women from the Fraser Coast who went on to take up engineering studies in 2013.

Federal Member for Maryborough Anne Maddern said applications for the 2015 academic year were now open.

"The scholarships are open to those wishing to study to get into fields that were traditionally male fields," she said.

"It's important because there is a demonstrated need in those fields."

Engineering, agriculture, environment science and building are among those industries included in the scholarship.
