THE Christmas shopping season is truly here in Toowoomba, as thousands of residents packed into Grand Central Shopping Centre to pick up last-minute presents for the family.

Pandora was particularly busy on the weekend, with the shop hiring an extra 17 casual workers to cater for the extra customers during the period.

Store manager Sophie Stocker said she was noticing more people doing their Christmas shopping earlier in December to beat the rush.

"We've found a lot of people are shopping earlier - a lot of people took advantage of the Black Friday sales, which we found brought more people out earlier," she said.

"It's still definitely busy, but it's a lot more even rather than everyone coming in at the last week.

"People used to leave it until the last two weeks until Christmas and it would just be mania."

Shopper Melissa Dickfos said she was in Grand Central to pick up some gifts for the family.

"I think it seems to be busy all the time, but maybe because we've got some great shopping centres people are always coming here," she said.
