Reward offered in Weekes cold case

A $100,000 reward has been posted by the NSW Government for information surrounding the brutal murder of Coffs Harbour man Graeme Weekes almost 11 years ago.

Mr Weekes was found dead in the lounge room of his Toormina unit on June 13, 1999.

A post mortem revealed he died of massive head and chest injuries, which were consistent with being struck by a blunt object.

A coronial inquest into the unsolved murder will be held on May 24.

The police investigation into the homicide questioned several people of interest however none were able to shed any light or reason for Mr Weekes’ death.

Coffs Clarence Area Command Detective Senior Sergeant Peter O’Reilly hopes this reward will lead to more information that will shed new light on the case.

“Detectives have extensively investigated the circumstances of Mr Weekes’ death,” Det. Snr Sgt O’Reilly said.

“We are encouraging any person who may be able to assist the investigation to contact Coffs Harbour detectives or Crime Stoppers.”

Acting NSW Police Minister Tony Kelly said Mr Weekes’ family deserved to know what happened to him and who was responsible so they could get some closure on the tragic death of their son and brother.

“We hope that this reward will encourage someone to remember something that might assist the police with their investigation,” Mr Kelly said.

“I’d encourage anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward.

“It might just be the missing piece of the puzzle that leads to criminal charges.”

Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Coffs Harbour detectives on 6652 0299.

Information may be given at any time, day or night, and will be treated as strictly confidential.
